I’m posting this to set the record straight on our sale of hats that where inspired by the character Nepeta from the Comic home stuck.
We first designed and made Nepeta hats in April of last year. We then sent you a message asking if you would like to officially sanction our hats for a…
Signal boost.
Also for anyone at AUSA who is accusing them of claiming its ok for them to sell it because Hussies a hypocrit? You are very mistaken, I personally was sharing a booth with both of them and was vocal about how hypocritical of the MSPA team for the entire situation. It was a personal opinion and the only thing I regret from having said opinion is some people have decided to manipulate it and apply it to the wrong people. This is not an opinion that has not changed, though I no longer feel the need to be as vocal about it.
The hall monitor nature of the Homestuck fandom is a legit problem, although many seem to be somewhat well informed with IP rights there are more than enough who are not and take pride in harassing others. There are a number of artists who have been harassed for selling items containing designs publicly owned, specifically Zodiac designs. I have personally seen artists hassled for having Zodiac artwork that has no actual connection to Homestuck or any other MSPA property. Does this mean fans shouldn’t respect the wishes of the creator they follow? Not at all but if this mentality is going to be supported then likewise the more extreme behavior should be discouraged.
Also something somewhat related that caught my eye as stated by Hussies significant other. There are IP Lawyers who will work on a percentage of profit basis instead of commission. A lack of immediate funds is not a viable excuse for why you’re not seeking proper legal protection.
